San Jacinto Day Festival & Battle Reenactment – April 16, 2011
Houston, TX – Come celebrate the 175th anniversary of Texas independence at the site of Texas victory over the Mexican army at the San Jacinto Battleground on Saturday, April 16, 2011. On April 21, 1836, in a battle that lasted about 18 minutes, Texas won her independence from Mexico in the Battle of San Jacinto. To celebrate the 175th anniversary, a huge festival has been planned this year. The Festival is a full day of music, entertainment, food, games and fun set amidst living history. The festival begins at 10:00 a.m. and continues until 6:00 p.m.
There will also be a reenactment of the Battle of San Jacinto beginning at 3:00 p.m. Come watch the Texas Army and the Mexican army fight the decisive battle in the war for Texas Independence on Texas 175th birthday. The festival and the battle re-enactment will be held at the San Jacinto Battleground and State Historic Site. The Texian victory at San Jacinto would eventually lead to almost a million square miles of Mexican territory becoming part of the United States of America.
At the base of the San Jacinto Monument, there will plenty of entertainment and educational activities. We also have it on good authority that the “Rolling Thunder” cannon will also be present with members of Lone Star Volunteers to discuss the importance of cannons like “Rolling Thunder” in the decisive Battle of San Jacinto. There will also be plenty of music, activities, crafts and games for everyone. Be sure and bring the kids.

Combo tickets for the elevator ride to the top of the San Jacinto Monument, Reflections history exhibit and the movie “Texas Forever!! The Battle of San Jacinto” inside the Monument can be purchased: $12 for adults, $10.50 for seniors, $8 for children. Fees for the Battleship TEXAS are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for school and youth groups with a reservation, and free for children 12 and younger.
The San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site is located just 22 miles east of downtown Houston – take Highway 225 east to Independence Parkway north (formerly Battleground Road) and continue for three miles. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets for comfortable viewing of the Battle Reenactment.
